MATH DEPARTMENT POLICIES
- If a student scores higher on the Unit Test than a quiz in the same unit, the quiz score will be replaced with the test score. If a student scores lower on the Unit Test than a quiz in the same unit, the quiz score will not be replaced. No quiz or test retakes will be given. If you miss an assessment, you can take it in the math testing room.
- Assessments will not be allowed out of the classroom for test security and equity reasons. Our teachers work hard to create rigorous common assessments. If you have specific questions about an exam, please contact your child's teacher.
- All homework/late work is due by the day of the unit assessment, unless there is an excused absence on the day of the assessment. No homework will be accepted after the assessment is taken. Assessments must be made up in accordance with district policy - for every day there is an excused absence, students will have that many days to make up the assessment, unless arrangements are made with the teacher upon the student's return.
- The testing room will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 2:30-3:30 in room 406, starting the third week of school. The testing room will be closed the last week of each quarter.
- No personal electronics are to be used during instructional time, in accordance with Chandler High School policy.
-
Honors Drop Policy:
We want students to be set up for success in an appropriate mathematics placement. Students taking an Honors of AP course may be asked or can request to change level at midquarter or quarter, provided they meet the following and the request is made within one week of progress grades:
-
Student has done all the work to the best of their ability
-
Student has attended at least three tutoring sessions
-
The parent and teacher have discussed the appropriateness of the student's placement.
-
Student has below a 70%
-
-
The student, teacher, parent, and counselor must fill out the corresponding level change request form.
If the student's grade is below a 60%, they will enter the new class with a 70%. If the student's grade is 60-69%, they will enter the new class with a 10% bump.
Please note: Please check with your teacher or your student's teacher for their additional classroom policies.
Please also note: Algebra 1 (first semester) and College Mathematics have unique retake policies that apply. Check with your teacher or your student's teacher.
