EVIT
Chandler High School (CHS) is a leading school in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. Many career and technical classes are offered to our students at CHS. In addition to our CUSD CTE programs, we have partnered with the East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) to expand student opportunities. EVIT is located in the heart of Mesa with an additional East Valley campus. They offer specialized high school level career and technical training through 50+ programs.
CHS EVIT students attend core courses one-half of the school day at CHS and the other half at EVIT, earning CTE/ elective credits. Transportation is provided between Chandler and EVIT campuses. Students are required to adhere to both EVIT and CUSD's calendar of classes. Meaning, they have to attend EVIT during CUSD breaks and CHS during EVIT breaks. Some breaks will overlap.
Q.) When can my students start attending EVIT?
A.) Most EVIT programs are two-year programs, therefore students can attend EVIT in their junior and senior years. Students may begin Senior year as well. This is dependent on program acceptance, attendance, behavior and student’s being on track towards graduation.
Q.) Is there a fee required to attend EVIT?
A.) There is NO tuition fee to attend EVIT. However, most programs have a supply, uniform, and/or exam fee. Costs and fees are minimal compared to other private programs. If a fee is a concern, contact EVIT for assistance.
Q.) Will my students be able to play sports and attend EVIT?
A.) Most Chandler students attending EVIT in the afternoon, return to campus at or around 3:15pm, Monday through Friday. Students need to check with their individual coaches for practice and game times. Most often students would need to enroll in an AM program and take summer school to enroll in EVIT and continue a sport.
Q.) What will my student's schedule look like?
A.) EVIT student’s sample schedule, PM EVIT is always preferred...
Q.) Why do EVIT students need to take "EVIT English"?
A.) EVIT students leave early to attend EVIT. PM EVIT students are in a special section of CHS English titled “EVIT English" that spans two periods, 3 and 4, in order to allow equal classroom seat time, a lunch period and transportation to EVIT to begin class at noon.
Q.) During testing, (AZMerit, ACT, etc.) what does my student need to do?
A.) Students will need to test and request a home school verification form to excuse them from EVIT. Parents need to call the EVIT attendance office too. Parents need to call the EVIT attendance office to inform EVIT of their student’s absence due to testing at the homeschool.
If testing is not required, the student will attend EVIT as usual. Please note, some testing dates may require all students not testing to be off campus. The cafeteria may be closed for service. Students should check with their teachers for testing procedures during these times.
Q.) Can a student attend EVIT who is credit deficient?
A.) Graduation is always the priority at Chandler High, so with this in mind, students will be required to meet with their counselor and set a graduation plan.
Q.) Does EVIT have the same calendar start date as CHS?
A.) Beginning with the 2023-24 school year, EVIT adopted a modified year-round school schedule. The EVIT calendar may vary by one week or so for starting the school year or during a break from CUSD. Students will need to arrange transportation to and from their home site during those times.
Q.) Are there programs for which bus transportation may not be available?
A.) Yes, if a program is a 4-hour block program i.e. has a start time of 7-11 am (no early morning or 11AM Transportation) or a noon- 4pm (no 4 pm transportation) is available. Students will need to make their own transportation arrangements for those non-transportation times.
Q.) When will a student be informed about registration processes for EVIT?
A.) During registration in January, all students will learn about EVIT. Rising juniors and seniors will learn about the steps and documentation needed to apply for EVIT. Click on link to learn more- High School Enrollment Process - East Valley Institute of Technology (evit.edu)
Chandler High expectations for EVIT students...
1. Students attending EVIT must remain on track to graduate. Meet with your counselor if you have questions.
2. Students need to stay on campus for "A" lunch if they wish to ride the CUSD bus to EVIT. To ride the CUSD BUS to EVIT you can request transportation here: BUS REQUEST FORM CLICK HERE. A student may provide their own transportation to EVIT but they will not be allowed back on campus after their last CHS class that day.
