LE 100 Traditions, Wellness, and Foundations of Citizenship
 

Traditions, Wellness, and Foundations of Citizenship is intended for students who are entering the AFJROTC program and beginning their high school studies.  It will introduce cadets to the history, organization, mission, traditions, goals, and objectives of JROTC for all services. It introduces key military customs and courtesies, how to project a positive attitude, and examines the principles of ethical and moral behavior.  It provides strategies for effective note-taking and study skills for academic success.  Lessons will cover how to be emotionally, mentally, and physically healthy. Avoiding and preventing violence in today’s society will also be covered. How to recognize types of bullying and how to advocate for the prevention of this type of behavior.  It will cover healthy living, physical fitness, and how to make safe, drug-free, and responsible decisions. This textbook will also examine the negative effects of air and water pollution, and how to help keep the environment safe.  Cadets will be introduced to civics and our national government, including a historical understanding of the American flag and other important national symbols. The final chapter will also cover how the US Constitution protects our rights and freedoms as American citizens.

 

All chapters and lessons contain full-color diagrams and a variety of other visual information.  A vocabulary list for each lesson ensures cadets will gain a deeper understanding of the terms they encounter throughout the text.

During the fall semester, we will cover Units 1 and 2.  During the spring semester, we will cover Units 3, 4, and 5.  Leadership Education (LE) will comprise 40% of your total class time. (Integrated into Aerospace Science)

 
LE 200 Communication, Awareness, and Leadership
 

Communication, Awareness, and Leadership, Second Edition, is a customized course designed to improve communication, enhance awareness of self and others, and provide fundamentals of leadership and followership.  Focus is on the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) mission to “develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their school, community, and nation.”  Woven throughout is the underlying theme of developing personal integrity.  The course emphasizes leadership, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity, as well as the values of integrity, service, and excellence.  Cadets have the opportunity to plan, organize, and participate in all Corps events with the AS 100, 300, and 400 level cadets while applying Air Force customs and courtesies and dress and grooming standards.  During the fall semester, we will cover Chapters 1-4.  During the spring semester, we will cover Chapters 5-8.  Leadership Education comprises 40% of your total class time. (Integrated into Aerospace Science)

 
LE 300 Fundamentals of Management

Fundamentals of Management provides an essential component of leadership education for today’s high school students.  This course is designed to provide students with an introduction to basic management concepts and skills, especially as they relate to managing in a JROTC unit. Throughout the course, there are individual and group activities, technology enrichment, readings, review questions, video segments, and assessments to guide the reinforcement of the materials presented. The text includes eight chapters: An Introduction to Management; Project Management; Planning---Laying the Foundation; Decision Making---Choosing Wisely; Organizing---Managing Time and Change; Leading-Managing Individual and Group Behavior; Understanding Work Teams; and Interpersonal Skills.  During the fall semester, we will cover Chapters 1 through 4.  During the spring semester, we will cover Chapters 5 through 8.  Leadership Education (LE) will comprise 40% of your total class time. (Integrated into Aerospace Science)

 
LE 400 Life Skills and Career Opportunities
 
Life Skills and Career Opportunities is designed to prepare students for life after high school in the high-tech, globally oriented, and diverse workplace of the 21st century. Students will learn how to become a more confident financial planner and to save, invest, and spend money wisely, as well as how to avoid the credit trap. They will learn about real-life issues such as understanding contracts, leases, warranties, legal notices, personal bills, practical and money-saving strategies for grocery shopping, apartment selection, and life with roommates. The Holland Interest Inventory and other self-assessments will help them to reveal their attitudes, aptitudes, and personal skills. This self-understanding will allow them to explore career paths and understand the requirements that they will need to be successful at work and in life. To help students increase their potential for success through education, they will learn how to select a school that is right for them; how to apply for admission to a vocational or technical school, community college, or college/university; and how to succeed in these learning environments. Information is provided on how to conduct a job search for students who wish to enter the workforce right after high school or after additional education and training. They will learn how to prepare a winning resume and how to develop effective interviewing skills. Students will become more skilled at using the Internet for career research and learn how to network safely using social media. Information is also provided on working for the federal government, including careers in the military, aerospace industry, and public service. Students will consider the most important elements of life skills for all Americans: civic responsibilities, such as volunteering, registering to vote, jury duty, and draft registration. During the fall semester, we will cover Chapter 1, Lessons 1-3, Chapter 2, Lessons 1-2, Chapter 3, Lessons 1-3, and Chapter 7, Lessons 1-3. During the spring semester, we will cover Chapter 4, Lessons 1-4, Chapter 5, Lessons 1-3, Chapter 6, Lessons 1-3, and Chapter 8, Lessons 1-4. Leadership Education will comprise 40% of your total class time and is integrated into Aerospace Science.
